This is not really a program, but it is awesome, so I wanted to include it here. StatCounter is a great website that offers free website tracking. If you have a website, I highly recommend getting it. It allows you to view where your users are coming from, what parts of your site they go to most, how they get to your site, and even where in the world they are! There is a surprising amount of detail you can get from someone just going to your website.
They offer subscriptions where you get more info, but you can get quite a lot of info for free. I started using them in the summer of 2005 when I made my professional website (www.robertborgersen.info), and it was quite enlightening–especially to watch how often the website is used on a daily/weekly basis (to see the high volume before a test or the VW date, and to see the low volume at the rest of the times).
Very easy to sign up, and very easy to install. I even use it on this blog! There is a plugin for WordPress that allows you to use it here to. Great piece of free “software” that everyone running a website should use.
