So it seems I have stumbled across a possible scam.
BlueHost.com (link) is a great web hosting service which I have now used for a number years. They give me what I think is a pretty good deal ($80 a year for essentially unlimited everything), and I am quite happy with them at the moment. They have 1-800 numbers you can call, and are based in Provo, UT.
BlueHost.net (link) is a completely different web hosting company…but their website looks surprisingly similar…and they link to BlueHost.hu, which is based on Hungary, specifically Szentendre, Hungary (based on the telephone number given on BlueHost.hu, and on this wikipedia page on telephone numbers in Hungary). Even more, the number given for after hours calls is a cell phone number (again, see the phone number, and that wikipedia page). On BlueHost.net, all the english pages’ links are dead and the page is overall unprofessional looking.
BlueHost.org (link) seems to be the same place, but actually directed towards international business, since the phone numbers given are given with country code to call Hungary. This site seems fairly well put together, and has an order form on it to order a domain. The site still looks like BlueHost.com, and seems to be a scam. Check out this forum post on the actual BlueHost forums. Seems someone bought a domain from them thinking it was BlueHost, and never received their login info. Even worse, this site comes up 3rd on Yahoo when searching for BLUEHOST “Domain Registration”.
Bottom line, BE CAREFUL! The web is full of people who want to take advantage of you. Selfishness has become so ingrained in our society. People just want to make a buck and don’t care who they run over or who they take advantage of to get there. And what recourse is there for those who get taken advantage of? Not much. When you get tricked, you’ve been tricked, and you are pretty much out of luck. But, when it happens to you, you are certainly not alone. Think about it this way: they wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t profitable for them. The only reason people try to fool you is because people get fooled, and they make money on it. People spend serious time and money on getting ready these sites to fool people. They wouldn’t do it if there was no profit in it for them. Unfortunately, it works.
Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matthew 24:12-13.
God said this would happen and that the love of most will grow cold. In that case, is it such a shock that you get burned by that cold? If most of the people around you are cold, don’t you think you will get frost bite eventually?
